Sweet and Soft Chestnuts: How to Cook Them Perfectly


Chestnuts are a delicious treat, but getting them just right can sometimes be tricky. Whether you're boiling, steaming, or roasting them, here are the best methods for cooking chestnuts easily at home.

1) Boiling Chestnuts in a Pot


- Place the chestnuts in a pot and add enough water to fully submerge them.
- Cover the pot and boil for 20–30 minutes.
- Once cooked, transfer the chestnuts to cold water to cool.
Tip: Putting boiled chestnuts directly into cold water helps the shells peel off more easily.

2) Steaming Chestnuts


- Place washed chestnuts into a steamer and steam for 15–20 minutes.
- After steaming, turn off the heat and let them sit for an additional 10 minutes.
Tip: Cutting a cross-shaped slit at the top of each chestnut makes peeling easier after steaming.

3) Roasting Chestnuts in an Air Fryer


- Make a cross-shaped cut on the top of each chestnut.
- Set the air fryer to 180°C (356°F) and roast for 15–20 minutes.
Tip: Chestnuts can burst while roasting, so the slit helps prevent this and makes them easier to peel.

4) Cooking Chestnuts in a Microwave


- Cut a cross on the top of each chestnut.
- Place the chestnuts in a microwave-safe dish with enough water to cover the bottom.
- Cover the dish and cook for 4–6 minutes.

5) Cooking Peeled Chestnuts


- For peeled chestnuts, place them in a steamer and steam over high heat for 5 minutes.
- Once the water starts boiling, lower the heat to medium-low and steam for another 10 minutes.
Tip: If chopsticks easily pierce the chestnut, they are fully cooked.
